    Functional Description

    • Performs systems engineering, acquisition engineering leadership, and technical analysis in support of platform and Weapon programs technical baseline development via systems engineering technical domain efforts in the areas of Research and development (R&D), integration, testing, production, deployment, and sustainment. This includes direct systems engineering support on specialized systems engineering technical domains throughout the full lifecycle of a weapon system from concept development to disposal and is applied to all (Tactical, Vertical Lift, Maritime, UAVs, Targets, and advanced weapons), Foreign Military Sales (FMS), and support systems.

    Role and Responsibilities

    • Performs both programmatic and technical leadership in support of NAVAIR NAWCAD engineering division.

    • This position will identify, formulate, design, and/or perform testing to practical solutions to solve engineering problems.

    • Provides engineering development of modern complex systems; employ systems engineering methods and tools in the development of advanced complex systems; and, when appropriate, conduct research in applied systems engineering to advance the naval aviation field.

    • Supports the Chief Systems Engineer/Assistant Program Manager Engineering, subordinate.

    • Provides multi-discipline research and development, integrated technical baseline development and evaluation, engineering assessment of the programs' progress towards demonstrating and confirming completion of required developmental tasks and confidence that the technical baseline is mature enough for the next stage of development. Systems engineering support will include an overall technical assessment of cost, schedule, emerging technology, and maturity of design in support of the acquisition programs.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Education: 10 years of experience in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related scientific discipline with a Master of Arts (MA) or Master of Science (MS) degree.

    • This position requires a Senior level person able to works in high-visibility or mission critical aspects of a given program and performs all functional duties independently. This Senior level person may oversee the efforts of less senior staff and be responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job.

    • High degree of proficiency with MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project and ability to comprehend systems engineering.

    Allowable Substitution

    • A Technical or Science Bachelor's degree plus four (4) years of additional work experience related to the applicable labor category may be substituted for a Master's degree.

    • Technical or Science Bachelor's degree related scientific discipline in the following technical area's: Engineering, Mathematics, Physics OR an Aerospace, Chemical/Process, Civil, Communications/Telecommunications, Computer, Cybersecurity, Electrical, Electromechanical, Engineering management, Engineering mechanics, Engineering technology, Industrial, Information engineering, General, Human Factors Engineering, Environmental, Industrial, Manufacturing, Materials, Mechanical, Naval Architecture and Marine, Nuclear and Radiological, Software, System.

    Security Clearance Requirements

    • An active secret or top-secret level security clearance is required.

    Desired Experience

    • Five (5) years of experience performing System Engineering supporting aviation.

    • Understanding of principals and levels of military aviation.

    Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    • Preform engineering analysis to support of aviation development and review of specifications for the air platforms, weapon systems, and related subsystems.

    • A strong understanding of platforms, weapon systems, and related subsystems specifications is a plus.

    Contract requirements regarding education and experience will prevail.
