  • Job Summary

    Works independently and collaboratively with department managers to coordinate the orientation process and provide in the department and on-the-unit education of new equipment products and procedures. Develops and provides department and unit-based educational programs regarding proper decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization methods.

    Job Duties

    • Coordinates the orientation process through an active involvement with orientee and preceptor.

    • Collaborates with management team in selection of preceptor.

    • Coordinates schedules for required classes with preceptor.

    • Assesses progress of orientation by follow-up with orientee and preceptor.

    • Identifies educational needs, assists with plan development to meet needs.

    • Provides support of preceptor throughout orientation process.

    • Functions as a mentor.

    • Provides ongoing education based on individual department needs, staff request and management request.

    • Provides ongoing education of proper technique for decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization to clinics and inpatient units based on individual unit needs, staff request and management request.

    • Assists staff with education of new equipment and instrumentation, products, procedures and handling emergencies.

    • Facilitates, supports and provides required education by identifying and communicating relevant in-services.

    • Monitors individual compliance of required elements.

    • Fosters growth of individual staff members through mentoring.

    • Establishes educational opportunities for all staff through workshops, computer based programs, articles and videos.

    • Collaborates with department management team to foster department growth, identify educational needs and develop plans related to process improvement.

    • Coordinates annual staff competency assessment.

    • Participates in performance improvement activities.

    • Instrument Asset Management System duties Manages all Instrument Asset Management System information including: User information, Security levels, Sterilization documentation, Instrument Set Lists, Item catalog, System images, Repair and Maintenance, and inventory levels.

    • Coordinates system information with Operating Room and Purchasing systems as appropriate.

    • Manages individual instrument and set labeling.

    • Produces reports on an ad hoc and periodic basis.

    • Manages implementation of system upgrades.

    • Communicates with Information Technology department.

    • Assists with hardware and software support.

    • Creates and distributes system documentation.

    • Manages end-user training.

    • Delegates system duties appropriately in conjunction with Central Sterile and Operating Room management.

    Work Schedule:

    • Hours: 9am-5:30pm

    • Travel: None

    • Experience: Must hold 3 years of certified experience

    Education

    High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)- (Required)

    Experience

    Minimum of 3 years-Related work experience (Required), Minimum of 1 year-Managerial/Supervisory (Preferred)

    Certification(s) and License(s)

    Certified Sterile Processing Technician - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
