• Senior Scientist, Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics and Metabolism

    PfizerCambridge, MA 02238

    Job #2692521058

  • Why Patients Need You

Pfizer's purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that change patients' lives. Research and Development is at the heart of fulfilling Pfizer's purpose as we work to translate advanced science and technologies into the therapies and vaccines that matter most. Whether you are in the discovery sciences, ensuring drug safety and efficacy or supporting clinical trials, you will apply cutting edge design and process development capabilities to accelerate and bring the best-in-class medicines to patients around the world.

    What You Will Achieve

In this role, you will be joining a dynamic group of discovery/development ADME project representatives within the Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics and Metabolism (PDM) Department at Pfizer Cambridge, Massachusetts. Working with multidisciplinary project teams, you will provide strategic direction towards the ADME characterization and optimization for small molecule therapeutic programs, primarily within the anti-infectives research unit. While doing so, you will also work closely in a matrix-team environment with bioanalytical and ADME scientists to ensure the execution of appropriate experimental plans and data interpretation. You will also interphase with pharmacologists, PK/PD modelers, and clinical pharmacokineticists to develop a translational pharmacology plan, human pharmacokinetics and dose projections for clinical candidates. As a PDM point-of-contact for the discovery project team, you will utilize ADME knowledge gathered from in vitro and in vivo disposition studies to influence all stages of the discovery process including the hit-to-lead, lead development, and candidate nomination phases. Post-candidate nomination, you will interphase with the asset development team to prepare the regulatory dossier and respond to regulatory queries, and support early clinical, drug-drug interaction, and human ADME studies. You will also be expected to partner with PDM scientists towards advancement of ADME sciences and strategies for prosecuting small molecule discovery/development projects. Key to this role is an ability to propose solutions to address complex ADME hurdles as they arise in early drug discovery, and an ability to grasp multiple drug disposition concepts as applicable to small molecule therapeutics.

    How You Will Achieve It

    • Application of functional/technical knowledge to design in vitro and in vivo ADME studies in collaboration with the PDM matrix team to explore ADME issues in drug discovery/development programs

    • Provide strategic direction to multidisciplinary project teams through interpretation and effective communication of ADME data

    • Ensure effective usage of internal and external PDM resources to deliver upon project milestones

    • Advance scientific and technology innovation and excellence that translates into portfolio impact

    Qualifications

    Must-Have

    • Ph.D. level education in ADME sciences, pharmacokinetics, medicinal chemistry and/or related fields (or B.S./M.S. with 7 - 10 years of prior experience) with a strong record of scientific achievement (e.g., peer-reviewed publications)

    • Highly effective written, presentation and verbal communication skills

    • Ability to communicate/collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary scientists in a research environment

    Preferred Skills

    • Expertise in one or more areas of ADME sciences

    • Broad understanding of pharmacokinetics and ADME concepts

    • Innovative problem-solving approaches to scientific problems

    • Experience in pharmacokinetic data analysis (e.g. noncompartmental analysis)

    • General knowledge of biotransformation and bioanalytical sciences

    PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Sitting, standing, lifting, bending, and walking. Ability to work on a computer (while standing or sitting).
