    Overview

    Axient is seeking ambitious aerospace, electrical,and/or mechanicalengineering studentswithaninterest in satellite design. This positionis located inAlbuquerque, New Mexicoas part of our satellite manufacturing laboratory "Space Monkey." Space Monkey specializes in concept, design, development, assembly, integration, and testing of components, subsystems, and integrated vehicles, primarilyCubeSats.

    This is a full-time position and offers a flexible work schedule.Start date for this position will depend on the candidate's last day of spring semester classes. Interviews should begin in January with selection in February 2024.

    Responsibilities

    Applicants should be interested in one or more of the following projects to "own" for the summer. Tackling more than one project is desired, but not required. Interns will have access to resources and the engineering team for guidance with their projects, but a lot of the culture at Space Monkey is self-driven learning and independent work. We're looking for interns who can work these projects without constant hand-holding.

    12U spacecraft solar panel s and power system

    The goal of this project is to completeasolar panel design, buildand testtheengineering unit, andmake adjustmentsfor theflight units.The intern would also assistthe engineering teamwith powerboarddesignand test.

    S-Band radio development with a focus on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA)

    This goal of this project is to learn as much as possible about the XilinxZinqchip or an alternative to meetthe radio's design requirements.

    12U spacecraft mechanical design and machining

    The goal of this project is complete a mechanical design for the structure while integrating payload requirements. This project may also includeassisting the engineering team with mechanicalcoil windingandinitiating the design and build of a customhelmholtzcage. Preference formechatronics experience.

    A ttitude D etermination and C ontrol S ystem (ADCS)

    This project involvesalgorithm development and testingfor an Axient-owned ADCS.The goal is to complete a system design with enough hardwaretocomplete preliminarytesting ofthe system.

    Exploration of r adiation hardening technologies for small satellites

    Qualifications

    Requirements for all Candidates

    • Onsite work in Albuquerque, New Mexico

    • Proof of U.S. Citizenship

    • Ability to pass a U.S. government background investigation

    Qualification s and Preferred Skills for Electrical Candidates

    • Must be pursuing abachelor's degree in electrical engineering. High school diploma is required.

    • Experience in electrical or electronics industry

    • Experience in space or aerospace conditions, systems, operations, and industry

    • Experience in electrical circuit design including identification, analysis, and evaluation of COTs components; schematic design; PCB layout; schematic symbol and PCB land pattern creation; and part library maintenance

    • Experience in Altium Designer PCB design software

    • Ability to work in a tight-knit team environment as well as self-driven for independent tasks

    Qualifications and Preferred Skills for Mechanical and Aerospace Candidates

    • Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or systems engineering. High school diploma is required.

    • Experience in SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software and design

    • Experience in space or aerospace conditions, systems, operations, and industry

    • Experience in spacecraft mechanical design including identification, analysis, and evaluation of COTs components, and part library maintenance
