  • VCA Veterinary Emergency and Veterinary Specialty Center, in Middleton, WI is seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency Team as a Relief Team member!

    Snapshot of the Role:

    As an Emergency team member, you will support the Emergency doctor teams by creating a positive, low-stress atmosphere for our clients and patients.

    Our Emergency and Critical Care Technicians thrive in a fast-paced service, handle critical case, and enjoy the stimulating caseload. Our Technicians have the opportunity to sharpen and advance their technical skills every day.

    • Performing triage assessments and prioritizing cases as they present

    • Manage the ER by assigning clinicians to cases as they present and coordinate timely interventions as needed

    • Abide by appropriate hospital SOPS for infection control when handling patients, providing interventions/treatments, and processing/performing diagnostic testing.

    • Communicate effectively with clients regarding the status of their pets and home care

    • Placing intravenous catheters, performing laboratory diagnostics

    • Performing abdominal and thoracic radiographs

    • Assisting with examinations

    • Inducing, maintaining, and monitoring anesthesia for ER procedures

    • Recovering patients from anesthesia

    • Performing nursing care of all patients presenting to the ER

    • Run diagnostics and correlate results with the clinical presentation of the patient and notify clinicians with results.

    • Assisting the ER clinicians with providing instruction and demonstration of emergency medicine skills to veterinary students, interns, and residents in a clinical setting.

    • Assist students with accomplishing the necessary student learning objectives

    • Develop professional relationships with the CSR team to aid in providing outstanding customer service to all ER clients

    • Enter charges for all triage patients and document treatment sheets

    • Assist in providing clinical support to doctors and other technicians/nurses

    • Provide restraint of patients without risk to patient, self, and others.

    • Abide by appropriate hospital SOPS for infection control when handling patients, providing interventions/treatments, and processing/performing diagnostic testing.

    • Provide high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients based on attention to detail

    • Utilize monitoring equipment and recognize trends

    • Assist with clinical procedures and offer direction to others.

    • Maintain a clean and organized work environment

    • Participates in CE for the purpose of personal development and development of a critical care mindset

    • Foster effective communication with both internal and external clients and referring hospitals.

    Schedule: Relief Opportunity

    Starting range is determined by skill set and years of experience in the field. Financial growth opportunities available.

    We offer a shift differential to all hourly associates who work within a specific timeframe. Shift differential is $3.00 /hr.
