  • Job Summary

    Under general supervision of the Radiologist and the following established duties and responsibilities, performs computed tomography procedures to acquire digital images for use by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Plans and performs all CT procedures and post processing using advanced technology based on clinical criteria, anatomy and established protocols. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in their assigned clinical area. Ensures protocols are based on ImageGently Guidelines and CT scanner's integration into the program that compiles dose data from each scan performed and notifies the user when a scan exceeds specific preset levels.

    Job Duties

    • Obtains CT images according to established protocols.

    • In doing so, ensures the patient is properly prepared, positioned, immobilized, protective shielding used when applicable and correct technical factors are selected.

      • Performs I-Stat blood test.
    • Translate Results for contrast procedures.

    • Dispense appropriate oral contrast to patients based on patient history and protocol.

    • Performs venous access for patients requiring IV contrast administration as directed by a radiologist.

    • Perform CT Interventional Procedures and is skilled in, first assistant scrub to Interventionalist, preparation of the sterile procedure trays, is knowledgeable to provide assistance and appropriate supplies for biopsies, drainages, aspirations, Endo leak Glueing, and Ablations, maintaining CT interventional inventory: supplies, catheters, wires, needles, etc.

    • Operating Cryo, Radiofrequency, and microwave ablations, to include equipment set-up, machine operation and various probe use.

    • Performs CTA imaging: Carotid, Head, Vertebral, Run-Offs, PE critical bolus timing.

    • Also Advanced CTA studies such as Trans Catheter Aortic Valve Replacement, Endovascular Aneurysm Repair and Cardiac imaging Provides technical expertise to operate CT Scanners, power injectors and computer systems to acquire images for use by the radiologist in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies.

    • CT technologist must maintain the knowledge to operate different CT Systems at multiple locations.

    • Maintain protocols that are based on Image Gently Guidelines and CT scanner's integration into a program that compiles dose data from each scan performed and notifies the user when a scan exceeds specific preset levels.

    • Maintain vast knowledge of all clinical histories to match appropriate protocols and knowledge of all major organ systems and vascular systems, needed to produce quality cardiac images Ensure all equipment and supplies are properly cleaned, sterilized and in working order.

    • Maintains working knowledge of pharmacology to ensure lab results are obtained prior to scheduled exam - Determine possible drug interaction with IV contrast - Medications used during Cardiac scanning - Metformin and Glucophage based drugs for patients receiving IV contrast Maintain knowledge of physics to lower patient dose on CT scanner.

    • Interpret technical factors to increase quality or speed of scan Maintain working knowledge to extract Pre-Cert Patient and Insurance information to schedule the exam in a timely manner Interface with ordering providers regarding correct exams to order, lab tests required and appropriate pertinent clinical information Maintain inventory management system for CT supplies and inventory.

    • Provide correct CTP coding and charges for patient procedures and supplies Performs equipment quality control tests and notifies team leader and radiology maintenance of irregularities.

    • Utilize Life Image image management for scan received from outside hospitals and import images to picture archiving communication system in appropriate manner, when requested.

    • Imaging exams and procedure tray set up require access and handling of non-controlled medications.

    Education

    Graduate from Specialty Training Program- (Required), Bachelor's Degree- (Preferred)

    Experience

    Minimum of 2 years-Related work experience (Preferred)

    Certification(s) and License(s)

    Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing Body; Certified Radiology Technologist - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); Certified CT Technician - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
