The Hottest Jobs That Employers Can't Fill

There's no doubt about it, the job market is getting better. It's great news for those of us who have been looking for a job and for employers who are benefiting from the high number of applicants. For them, it has become easy to find employees who are highly qualified in an extremely short period of time. However, this isn't the case with all job openings. In fact, there are several fields where employers have been struggling to find people to hire.

There are many reason why certain jobs are harder to fill. Some are highly technical and call for a specific skill set that isn't very common and others might not pay enough to keep people interested. In some cases, employers have had open positions for months and months. What's even more interesting is that these positions span all of the major industries from retail to business to manufacturing.

Here are a list of jobs that employers just can't fill:

Truck Drivers - During the worst of the economic recession, companies weren't buying and selling goods in as large a number. This left those in the transportation and logistics industry in a tight spot. Many truck drivers found that they weren't able to make enough money and they left the industry in order to find other career paths. Now, as the economy recovers, there aren't enough truck drivers to go around. In fact, almost 70 percent of carriers say that they still have jobs open.

Laborers - This group was one of the hardest hit by the recession. Between the housing market crash and corporate cost-cutting, there wasn't as great a need for construction workers and the like. Now that companies are hiring and expanding again, many of them have projects that have been on the back burner for some time. However, construction companies are finding it hard to hire enough skilled employees to do the jobs.

Accountants - Accounting is a very specialized field and companies are having trouble keeping skilled accountants. Not only is it difficult to find employees, it's also tough to keep them.Since there is such a shortage, the best accountants will often move to other companies who offer more money or other incentives.

Repair Technicians - This position is the hardest for employers to fill. According to a survey by ManpowerGroup, the main reason is that most applicants lack the experience and technical skills needed.

Hospitality Workers - The past few years have shown a dramatic decline in tourism. Which makes sense. When the economy is bad and people are trying to hang on to their jobs, there just isn't enough time or money to take a vacation. During the past few years, many people who had previously worked in this industry have found other jobs or changed career paths, leaving a hole that employers are having trouble filling. Several hotels say the reason is that it's hard to find applicants with the right set of skills.

With most of these open jobs, the problem is that the applicants don't have the correct amount of training or experience. What should employers do? On one hand, they could offer to train promising candidates. However, many of them are deciding to look outside of their local areas and even outside of the country to recruit new talent.
