Looking to reduce the amount of stress in your work and personal life alike? Laughter may be the answer! After all, laughter can increase oxygen flow, lower your blood pressure, and even relax those tense muscles in your body.

How to Add Humor to Your Life

• Read jokes on a regular basis

•Watch a humorous movie or television sitcom

• Read a funny book or short story.

• Call a friend to share a funny story

• Consider attending a laughter yoga session.

• Attend a comedy club.

• Spend time with playful children.

• Engage in fun, physical activities

• Laugh at yourself when appropriate

• Spend time and play with a pet animal

• When all else fails, smile and force yourself to laugh

How Does Laughter Improve Your Overall Mood and Health?

Laughter Boosts the Immune System

According to research, laughter lowers the amount of the stress hormone cortisol in your body. Further, laughter boosts the immune systems by increasing the amount of T cells that have “helper” receptors and increases the number of activated T lymphocytes. Moreover, laughter increases the activity and number of natural killer cells.

Good Moods Have a Positive Effect on Immune Systems

If you are laughing, you most likely will be in a good mood as well. This sense of well-being in turn can release neurochemicals in your brain that can counteract the stress hormone cortisol.

Laughter and humor allows us to look at serious matters in a different light.

For instance, if you are currently unemployed and looking for a job, having a sense of humor – and laughing – can help you to maintain a positive attitude and in turn may help you to find suitable employment that much quicker. All in all then, the old adage is correct - laughter is truly the best medicine.
