PURPOSE OF POSITION: The primary purposes of this position are to provide clinical leadership, to direct patient care for the assigned unit, and to work cooperatively with the interdisciplinary health care team to maintain standards of nursing care within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.# The Assistant Manager will support and collaborate with the Unit Director (UD) and serve as the first line of communication between staff and management. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of State Board approved School of Nursing Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Ohio Educational and experiential qualifications with consideration of the following: Education- BSN required CCRN Certification within one year for those meeting eligibility requirements Membership preferred in professional organization Academic and experiential requirement as required by applicable federal, state and local law. Proactively and positively deal with continual change. Have a track record of building positive relationships. Create a culture where performance and accountability is expected and supported by all members of the leadership team.# Support the nursing leadership team and medical director of the Cardiovascular Surgical division, in their initiatives to develop a #Cardiac Center of Excellence#. Must have worked in a Cardiovascular Surgical #ICU for a minimum of 2 years during their professional career. ######################### MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:# Maintains professionalism and confidentiality in all communications. Models in daily activities the values, goals, and expectations of the unit.# Takes the initiative to acutely build great teams through communication, coaching, shift activities, and resolving challenges.# Communicates with peers on a daily basis regarding service delivery, staff assignments and success, and issues that need to be resolved. Ensures that staff has all resources necessary to be successful in terms of equipment, processes, information, and support.# Partners with unit director to ensure that communication flows in all directions in order to provide clarity, focus, and connection between management and staff. Provides direct patient care when needed. # Participates in and supports hospital safety programs and initiatives. Supports and enforces hospital policies and best practice measures. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Participates in Performance Improvement activities of the department as appropriate. Management of assigned projects on a daily basis including initiation, follow-through and completion of the project Demonstrates use of evidence applied to clinical practice to achieve improved outcomes. Serves as an active member of the unit leadership team, working with the Unit Director to ensure the clinical and budgetary efficiency of the department. Provides Unit Director with information for development of annual budget. Provides clinical coverage in the absence of the Unit Director; scheduled on-call, and weekend rotation will be required. Provides direct patient care when needed. Evaluates and ensures clinical staffing coverage 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Supervises, evaluates, guides and counsels staff in their work performance. Participates in action planning for staff development. The job will require schedule flexibility with regard to shift start and end times.
